Send SMS reminders to your customers
Text messages keep Delegates informed and reduce no‑shows! accessplanit supports automated SMS reminders through two integrated providers, so you can trigger reminder messages to your Delegates without manual effort.
Why send SMS reminders?
Reduce no‑shows and late arrivals by nudging Delegates at the right moment
Improve Delegate experience with clear joining instructions and last‑minute updates
Cut admin: automation sends, tracks, and logs texts for you
Reach people faster: SMS open rates and time‑to‑read outperform email for reminders
Who this is most useful for
SMS reminders are particularly valuable if you:
Run scheduled training with fixed start times (Classroom or Webinar)
Deliver compliance or certification courses where attendance is critical
Need to communicate last minute course changes to Delegates
Support Delegates who are often mobile and/or have limited email access
How SMS works in accessplanit
SMS is typically used to send automated reminder texts to Delegates ahead of their Course. You choose when messages are sent (e.g. 24 hours and 2 hours before start), and accessplanit triggers the send via your connected SMS provider. Every message attempt is recorded in your SMS Logs for audit and troubleshooting.
Key terms
Workflow Actions: Add an SMS action to your existing Course reminder workflows to automate timing and content
Recipients: Usually Delegates booked on a Course; can also target Contacts where appropriate
Sender ID: The display “from” name/number approved by your chosen provider
Credits: SMS costs are paid to your provider. Messages send when your balance has credits
Logging: Delivered, queued, and failed attempts are visible in Administration > SMS Logs
Top tip!
We recommend pairing an SMS reminder with a detailed email.
Use the SMS for concise essentials (date, time, link/venue), and include a link to the full email or portal for details.
Supported SMS providers and important limitations
accessplanit integrates with two providers, choose the one that best fits your needs and region.
Text Marketer
Straightforward account setup and credit purchase
Checks when signing up with Text Marketer
Our integration communicates with Text Marketer via requests to api.textmarketer.co.uk, so when setting up your account, please check with Text Marketer that API access is enabled and compatible with this endpoint.
Clickatell
Our integration uses Clickatell Developer Central (legacy)
New Clickatell accounts are placed on OneAPI by default, which is not compatible with our integration
If you wish to use Clickatell, you must request access to the legacy Developer Central directly from Clickatell support
Checks when signing up with Text Marketer Clickatell
Clickatell places all new accounts on OneAPI. Our integration requires Developer Central. This legacy version is not available online by default, so please contact Clickatell to enable a Developer Central account for your organisation.
Set-up process
Follow these steps to enable SMS reminders on your platform.
Contact your CSM
Let your accessplanit Customer Success Manager know that you would like SMS enabling in your platformChoose a provider (start with Text Marketer if you’re unsure)
Sign up with Text Marketer or Clickatell and create your account. If choosing Clickatell, request Developer Central access specifically (see limitation above).Purchase SMS credits
Most providers grant limited “test” credits initially. You will still need to purchase a credit bundle for live sending.Set up a sub‑account and capture credentials
For security, create a sub‑account for accessplanit use and send us the sub‑account username and password (or equivalent API credentials).Complete Sender ID verification with your provider
Providers typically require a company letter on official letterhead to verify your identity and approve your Sender ID. Submit this directly to your chosen provider as part of their approval process. Keep confirmation on file.Send credentials to accessplanit securely
Share the sub‑account credentials with accessplanit. Our team will update your platform with your details.Configure your Workflows
Once credentials are confirmed, add SMS Actions to your Course reminder Workflows, test internally, then switch to live recipients!
Top tip
After your first successful tests, monitor your SMS Logs for a few days to confirm delivery rates and message timing align with what you are expecting.
Writing effective SMS reminders
Keep it short and action‑oriented (max recommended 160–320 characters to avoid multipart costs)
Include essentials only: course name, date, time, key link or venue
Add a short link to joining instructions or your portal for details
Use a recognisable Sender ID (subject to provider approval)
Here is an example:
Reminder: ‘Project Essentials’ starts tomorrow 09:30am. Join here: example.link/PE-join-live
