Server Migration Procedure

Learn about the benefits of a dedicated server to know if it is the option for you!

If your accessplanit platform is currently hosted on a shared server and you're wondering what the benefits of a dedicated server are, you're in the right place! This page outlines the key advantages of moving to your own dedicated server, and when it might make sense to consider the move.

ℹ️ What’s the difference between a shared server and a dedicated server?

A shared server means your platform is hosted alongside other customers’ platforms on the same server. While shared hosting is suitable for many businesses, there are some limitations - particularly if you’re running high volumes of data or want more flexibility.

A dedicated server is your own space, it is used exclusively for your platform and isn’t shared with any other customers.

What are the benefits of being on a dedicated server?

🏃 Improved performance and speed

Your platform will benefit from better load times and more consistent performance, this is particularly helpful if you have lots of concurrent users or you're managing large volumes of data.

🔇 No noisy neighbours

You won’t be impacted by other customers with high usage, which can sometimes happen on shared servers. With a dedicated server, your performance is isolated and consistent.

💾 Increased storage limits

You can choose the storage capacity you need when your dedicated server is ordered. This better supports you scaling with confidence! Please note that storage capacity of servers is subject to availability and pricing, just let us know if you would like more detailed information on this!

🌍 Set your own time zone

On shared servers, your platform uses UTC for things like event logs. On a dedicated server, you can choose your platform's time zone to suit your location or business needs better!

Choose where your data is hosted

With a dedicated server, you can choose where your data is hosted! There are several options available: UK, EU, US/Canada, giving you more flexibility to meet internal or regional hosting requirements.

Please note

If you require a region outside of UK, EU, US/Canada you may wish to consider self-hosting, please get in touch with a member of the accessplanit team to discuss this further.

When should I consider moving to a dedicated server?

You might want to explore moving to a dedicated server if:

  • You’re dealing with large volumes of data or high user activity

  • You need greater control over where and how your data is hosted

  • You have specific time zone requirements for logging and reporting

  • You want more flexibility with storage

  • You’re looking for consistently high performance, without interruption from others

Things to be aware of

A dedicated server comes at an additional cost and will need to be provisioned by our Infrastructure Team. Storage capacity, region and time zone are selected at the point of setup and may be subject to availability. If you're considering the move, we recommend speaking to your Customer Success Manager to find out what's possible.
