Learn how to create a new type of Resource in your platform
Resource Types are used to define and categorise the different kinds of Resources your Courses may require!
The Resource Types in your platform can include anything from ‘Internal Venue’ - for your venue locations that are hosted on-site - ‘Equipment’ - for any specialist equipment your Courses may use - ‘Catering’ for tracking the type of food order required for Courses and their associated costs - to ‘External Trainer’ - for your outsourced Trainer Resources.
You have full control of the Resource Types in your platform, which means that you can ensure that the specific requirements of your Courses are supported!
This page will walk you through the steps for creating a new Resource Type.
Optional - Add a new Parent Resource Type
If you do not yet have a Parent Resource Type for your new Resource Type to be categorised within, follow the steps below to create a new Parent Resource Type
A Parent Resource Type allows you to create a hierarchy for your Resource Types by grouping similar types under a broader category.
For example, you might have a Parent Resource Type called ‘Equipment’, which contains the Resource Types ‘Computers’, ‘Lab Equipment’, or ‘Protective Equipment’ within its hierarchy.
Other examples of Resource Types like ‘Internal Trainer’, ‘External Trainer’, and ‘Assessor’ might have a Parent Resource Type like ‘Trainer’.
Assigning a Parent Resource Type helps to keep your resources organised and makes reporting and filtering easier.
Go to Profile and then Administration in the top right-hand corner of your Platform
Select ‘Resource Types’ from the Administration menu
Click the ‘Add Resource Type’ button
Enter a Label for the Parent Resource type, do not select a Parent Resource Type
Click the ‘Save’ button
This Resource Type is now a Parent Resource Type and can have other Resource Types nested underneath it. You can see this because Parent Resource Types don’t have a Parent Resource ID
Add a new Resource Type
Follow the steps below to create a new Resource Type, so that you can begin creating Resources with it!
Go to Profile, and then Administration in the top right-hand corner of your Platform
Select ‘Resource Types’ from the Administration menu
Click the ‘Add Resource Type’ button
Give the Resource Type a Label, then select the Parent Resource Type this Resource will belong to
Click the ‘Save’ button
Finally, make sure you enable your new Resource Type(s) so they show in the Resources section.
You also have the option to protect your Resource Types to prevent them from being deleted, enabling any of these two options will also require the Resource Type to be saved once more
